Mind ‘merges’ only in SAMADHI, and nothing can be said about it. Unless one attains SAMADHI, his (or her) mind, definitely, remains. Beware! Mind has the capacity to behave ‘either way’ when there is opportunity. So it is useless to name any ‘state of mind’ (so as to honor or condemn), because every ‘state of mind’ is fickle in course of time. In fact spirituality has nothing to do with mind or its activity. So spirituality neither answers nor discusses. Only ‘modern’ spirituality stress on Q & A and groups, because ‘its experience’ (which must be respected) is limited to that. Mantra is a spiritual word or short phrase that can be repeated silently in the mind as a means of connecting with our inner wisdom. You can use your mantram while walking, doing chores, or when you are falling asleep. It is a comfort and a support during times when you are angry, afraid, nervous, or worried. And it can provide assistance as we try to shed our likes and dislikes. With the mantram we regain our natural energy, confidence, and control, so that we can transform everything negative in us and make our greatest possible contribution to the welfare of those around us. The mantram serves as calming force in the face of fear and confusion. Using the mantram every day will help it take root in your consciousness.
As the specific pattern of controlled wind-flow through the holes of a flute produces specific sonorous tune, likewise, the vibrations induced by the repeated rhythmic chanting of a specific mantra generate specific pulsation of prana and stimulate the extrasensory energy nuclei in the body accordingly. The japa of Divine Name or Mantras has been an integral part of all modes of worship or prayer in every religion be it Hindu, Sikh, Islam, Buddhist, Christian, Tao, Bahai, etc. Japa-sadhana is a scientific method devised by the Rishis to activate the extrasensory energy centers within to facilitate the sublime flow of vital spiritual currents in this majestic living system.
The sound of a particular mantra also has to pass through several stages before it is fully experienced by the listener in perfection. These stages are termed as para, pashyanti, madhyama and vaikhari. Each level of sound corresponds to a level of existence, and one's experience of sound depends upon the refinement of one's consciousness. It takes a realized consciousness to experience the full range of sound, the full range of existence. The seers who can comprehend the four stages of sound are known as Manishis.
